Most people who appear to have flat feet usually have normal arches. Their arches appear to be flat because during running, their feet roll inward excessively and cause their arches to touch the ground so you can't see them. When you run, you land on the outside bottom of your foot and roll inward to prevent injuries by dissipating the force of your footstrike. Flat-footed people have feet that roll inward excessively, causing their arches to touch the ground. Rolling in excessively causes their feet to press against the ground with greater force that, in turn, pushes them forward so they can run fast. That's why almost all sprinters have flat feet that have normal arches.
